As told by local historians :
There was heavy fighting on Biak during World War 2 with pockets of Japanese still resisting the US forces long after the island was invaded.
Around 3000 Japanese held out in the Binsari cave in the jungle heights above the airport, refusing to surrender.
Finally the Americans poured 1000s of litres of gasoline into the caves …and dropped a bomb onto the main cavern.
Battlefield relics and human remains still
openly litter the site of the battle and final annihilation.
You will struggle to find this version of the event in any published histories and it is still denied by the US Army.
